We are always finding ways to ispire our ladies. In the centre we provide ideas for meals and exercise classes to raise your heart rate and strengthen muscles. Outside the centre we encourage members to stay active in their daily lives and occasionally get involved in some local active charity events from kayaking to walking marathons. Call to find what we are doing at the moment, and be inspired!

Healthy snacks for home or at work

Healthy Inspirations sell a wide variety of healthy protein snacks. These snacks vary from chocolate coated bars with natural sweeteners (suitable for Diabetics and for keeping your sugar levels constant) to protein crisps and shakes. We recommend one snack serve at morning or afternoon tea to prevent cravings and tiredness. These protein snacks are full of nutritional goodness with no added preservatives.  


Weight Loss Study
The Weight Loss Study held at HI Sale where 45 women self selected one of three groups in which to participate. None of the women were members of Healthy Inspirations.


Group 1 involved exercise three times a week only; Group 2 involved the same exercise plan, plus a personalised diet plan and support and coaching sessions over the phone three times per week; while Group 3 involved the same exercise plan and personalised diet plan as well as individual face-to-face support and coaching sessions three times per week.
According to Mananging Director of Healthy Inspirations, Kirsten Mackintosh, Group 1 (exercise only), on an average gained 200g. Of the 19 ladies in this group, only a few lost weight whereas the rest put on weight.*
Group 2 (phone coaching) lost an average of 3.6kg, however this was the smallest group of only 4 participants.
Group 3 (face to face coaching) lost an average of 2.93kg which supports the well documented theory that exercise without and dietery intervention will not result in desirable weight loss.
The study indicates that weight loss results will be faster and more reliable when exercise is complemented by both dietery intervention and high frequency face to face support, and this supports our approach at Healthy Inspirations.

Girl Talk

Our girls love to talk, ask questions and socialise. Girl Talk is free and gives members and non-members a chance to listen to experts or enthusiasts invited in to speak on health and fitness topics and share their experiences through seminars, workshops and demonstrations. It's a great way to make new friends and learn new ways to be happy and healthy.

Boxing Classes

Boxing classes are the chosen workout for ladies who need to get everything out of their system. You can be sure to build up a sweat in a safe environment with a qualified personal training instructor as your coach. Sessions run for 8 week blocks. Please call and enquire for times.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Healthy Inspirations will be opening it's doors on a gold coin donation basis to raise funds for breast cancer research at set times during the year 2012. Watch this space for more information on how you can take part.


Core Strengthening classes 

This class may seem a steady pace, but the muscles you will be working are essential to wellbeing and all over body toning, particularly the stomache and abs. Members can book up to eight week blocks. Non members also welcome. Please call and enquire for times.

Sale to Sea Challenge 2013

Healthy inspirations is starting a Kayaking team for the Bi-annual event Sale to Sea disability challenge taking place in March 2013 which raises money for Limbs for Life. The team meet up regularly throughout the summer months to paddle together. Healthy Inspirations Life! Courses: Funded by Diabetes Australia - Victoria

Healthy Inspirations facilitators, Diana Will (Healthy Inspirations Health Coach) and Kirsten Mackintosh (Healthy Inspirations Sale Franchise Manager), tailor the Life! Taking Action on Diabetes courses for local people who may be at risk of getting Type 2 Diabetes and would like to prevent the onset of chronic illnesses, including Heart Disease, through learning about nutrition, food label reading, weight loss, relaxation, and exercise.

The ethos of the Life! Taking Action on Diabetes echos that of Healthy Inspirations and provides us with an opportunity to share our knowledge of how food and balanced lifestyle can help well being.

The course provides new and relevant knowledge to make decisions on:

  • how to get a fit and healthy body
  • how to reduce risks of illness
  • how to adopt a ‘lifestyle habit’ in preference to a ‘fad diet’ or ‘temporary exercise plan’

 

The Course outcomes:

  • Learn about healthy eating and exercise for weightloss
  • Learn information about the causes of illnesses such as Diabetes Type 2
  • Learn how to avoid illness through understanding nutritional information, such as label reading and product choice making
  • Understand about why there are benefits from physical activity
  • Discuss ideas to build strategies on how to set and reach health goals.
  • Find motivation to reach your goals, which are monitored by qualified Life! facilitators from psychology and nutrition backgrounds.

Participants are welcome to bring with them family members who can support their goals or also benefit from the course.

The sessions are very informal and last approximately 90 minutes. Participants will be given a workbook that includes activities and resources relating to nutrition and physical activity recording and planning. Each session is run as a group which creates an interactive and socially- supportive atmosphere.

Behind the scenes of Life! Taking Action on Diabetes

“A plan is good to reach our goals.

Real life can mean we don’t always stick to the plan. But if there is no plan in the first place, then how can we begin the journey to get there? “

A story of how we plan to set up a group

The above photo shows participants in the Life! Taking Action on Diabetes group in Churchill, held fortnightly at the Churchill Leisure centre and supported by Latrobe city council.

The group was formed after Kirsten was invited to speak to Latrobe staff about health and Nutrition to compliment intervention by their OHS department. During the presentation Kirsten invited staff to meet with her and talk about their lifestyle and she found three people to be high risk and eligible to attend a course.  Consequently, Kirsten was asked by Latrobe if she would start a course for these people.

A group could not run with just three people, so both Diana and Kirsten set out to find more people in need of help. Meanwhile, Latrobe City Council gave us their full support by supplying the location for the groups at the Leisure centre in Churchill.

To recruit more people, a community notice was printed in the local paper, letting locals in Morwell and Churchill know that a Life! course will be starting and an information stand will be available prior to the course date to provide interested people with more detailed information before committing to a course.

From this, a group of keen and willing participants were formed.

Here are some of the comments from the participants after the fifth session:

 “I feel much healthier, fitter and better about myself in general. I have  made some changes including eating grainy bread, however I still lapse into white bread, but I knows it is early days and I hope my new habit will get easier over time.” by Nabil. Life! participant. Nabil came to us from the Latrobe City council and has been inspiring others by what he is doing. He is a great ambassador for the Life! program and supports the belief that prevention is far better than cure.

“I loved the course and would like to do more of such courses. Every time I learn something new.” by James. Life! participant. James was a great example as someone who demonstrates, it is never too old to grow and improve.

The group are now on their six month  break from the course, which gives them a chance to work on their new lifestyle goals they have set. We will meet with them again after the six months are over to talk with them about all their successes and challlenges they have faced.

Often participants find this final session useful. Each person, has their own unique journey and shares tips and ideas that may be clear to them, but actually a novelty to others. One person’s health ’tip’ can become a life changing piece of advice for someone else.

cherylbeforecherylafter"Last night I received my 100% award. I had lost 4 kilograms in 8 weeks. A small achievement really; given that others had lost 12 kilograms and had been "on plan" for longer.

However I feel wonderful! A small achievement yes, but I have lost 1 dress size (maybe a little more), I fit into clothes that had been "too tight" with ease, my self-confidence is at an all time high, I'm happy and I feel good about my life. OK I had the usual 4 week into the program thing where I complained to Caz about having to stay on plan and fill out my journal. My usual thoughts..... cannot do it; why should I have to eat what they tell me when I don't feel like it, not going to be able to change my habits. But change I have!

I no longer crave certain food groups. I make wise choices with respect to everything I eat. I shop different, reading labels. Food or diet is not my number one thought; healthy choices come naturally.

I want to thank The Team; I could not have done it without you. I may not have had as many appointments as required but just your presence each time I arrived to exercise was sufficient support for me and motivated me to keep going. I think its been five months since I walked up those stairs. The best decision I have made in a very long time. I feel great.

Hi my name is Janine,

The best thing I have ever done for myself was join Healthy Inspirations in June 2009. Because I needed to lose weight, but I knew I couldn't do it on my own.

Going clothes shopping for me was very depressing, because what clothes I liked didn't fit and I refused to buy any bigger sizes. I was sick and tired of being told I looked fine and could carry the weight because I am tall. It took alot of courage on my part to walk up the stairs at HI and ask for help. What was even better for me though was having great support from my girls and my partner.

Healthy Inspirations has taught me about eating for a healthier lifestyle and doing regular exercise, but most importantly how to keep it off. The support from the staff is always encouraging, even when I had bad days and didn't think I could achieve my goal they helped me stay positive, and keep on track to what I wanted more than anything. As the saying goes if you fall off a horse, you have to get right back on it in order to succeed. You have to believe in yourself and say "I can do this"

The food is great with a large variety to choose from, but the best thing is seeing the weight come off. I lost on average a kilo a week and now I not only look great but I feel even better which is an awesome feeling. The only thing I struggle with now is accepting compliments.

I now have my before and after photo on my fridge to remind me of how far I have come.
