We offer three plans:

 

1. Healthy weightloss coaching and exercise combined

 

2. Healthy weightloss coaching only. No Exercise.

In addition there is a special plan for teenagers and discount for pensioners. Please call and ask for more information. We are always finding ways to ispire our ladies. In the centre we provide ideas for meals and exercise classes to raise your heart rate and strengthen muscles. Outside the centre we encourage members to stay active in their daily lives and occasionally get involved in some local active charity events from kayaking to walking marathons. Call to find what we are doing at the moment, and be inspired!

Healthy snacks for home or at work

Healthy Inspirations sell a wide variety of healthy protein snacks. These snacks vary from chocolate coated bars with natural sweeteners (suitable for Diabetics and for keeping your sugar levels constant) to protein crisps and shakes. We recommend one snack serve at morning or afternoon tea to prevent cravings and tiredness. These protein snacks are full of nutritional goodness with no added preservatives.  


Weight Loss Study
The Weight Loss Study held at HI Sale where 45 women self selected one of three groups in which to participate. None of the women were members of Healthy Inspirations.


Group 1 involved exercise three times a week only; Group 2 involved the same exercise plan, plus a personalised diet plan and support and coaching sessions over the phone three times per week; while Group 3 involved the same exercise plan and personalised diet plan as well as individual face-to-face support and coaching sessions three times per week.
According to Mananging Director of Healthy Inspirations, Kirsten Mackintosh, Group 1 (exercise only), on an average gained 200g. Of the 19 ladies in this group, only a few lost weight whereas the rest put on weight.*
Group 2 (phone coaching) lost an average of 3.6kg, however this was the smallest group of only 4 participants.
Group 3 (face to face coaching) lost an average of 2.93kg which supports the well documented theory that exercise without and dietery intervention will not result in desirable weight loss.
The study indicates that weight loss results will be faster and more reliable when exercise is complemented by both dietery intervention and high frequency face to face support, and this supports our approach at Healthy Inspirations.

Girl Talk!

The next one is : 16th May, Emotional Freedom Technique, by Wendy Matthews 7-8.30pm

Our girls love to talk, ask questions and socialise. Girl Talk is free and gives members and non-members a chance to listen to experts or enthusiasts invited in to speak on health and fitness topics and share their experiences through seminars, workshops and demonstrations. It's a great way to make new friends and learn new ways to be happy and healthy.

Boxing Classes

The next block of 8 classes: Monday 19th and Thursday 22nd March 6-7pm

In these boxing classes, you can be sure to build up a sweat in a safe environment. These sessions are great for cardio, work on core muscle strength and overall body toning. Sessions run for 8 week blocks.

Sale to Sea Challenge 2013

Healthy inspirations is starting a Kayaking team for the Bi-annual event Sale to Sea disability challenge taking place in March 2013 which raises money for Limbs for Life. The team meet up regularly throughout the summer months to paddle together. Healthy Inspirations Life! Program Sessions

(A one time opportunity! Starting in June.)

Healthy Inspirations facilitators, Diana Will (Healthy Inspirations Health Coach) and Kirsten Mackintosh (Healthy Inspirations Sale Franchise Manager), tailor the Life! Program for local people who wish to improve their well being through learning about nutrition, food label reading, weight loss, relaxation, and exercise and reduce the chance of illness later in life. The sessions are free and funded by a Victorian illness prevention scheme.

The ethos of the Life! program, echos that of Healthy Inspirations and provides us with an opportunity to share our knowledge of how food and balanced lifestyle can help well being.

The program provides new and relevant knowledge to make decisions on:

  • how to get a fit and healthy body
  • how to reduce risks of illness
  • how to adopt a ‘lifestyle habit’ in preference to a ‘fad diet’ or ‘temporary exercise plan’

Lauren Day, Program developer at Diabetes Australia –Victoria says

‘Kirsten is one of the Life! program's most prolific facilitators, delivering more than 39 Life! courses in the East Gippsland area over the past two years with 311 participants. She recently undertook facilitator training in the Aboriginal Life! program to extend her professional capacity to work with the Aboriginal community and the Aboriginal Health Service in the East Gippsland area. Kirsten has demonstrated a dedication to stay up to date with knowledge and skills on health programs and diabetes prevention initiatives.’

A Life! program in Churchill, Latrobe Valley.

Kirsten and Diana are setting up Life! programs all around Gippsland. The above photo shows participants in the Life! Taking Action on Diabetes group in Churchill, held fortnightly at the Churchill Leisure centre and supported by Latrobe city council. The group are currently on a 6 month break, after which, they will reunite to share their successes and challenges.

Nabil, Life! program participant from the Churchill group says “I feel much healthier, fitter and better about myself in general. I have  made some changes including eating grainy bread, however I still lapse into white bread, but I knows it is early days and I hope my new habit will get easier over time.”

cherylbeforecherylafter"Last night I received my 100% award. I had lost 4 kilograms in 8 weeks. A small achievement really; given that others had lost 12 kilograms and had been "on plan" for longer.

However I feel wonderful! A small achievement yes, but I have lost 1 dress size (maybe a little more), I fit into clothes that had been "too tight" with ease, my self-confidence is at an all time high, I'm happy and I feel good about my life. OK I had the usual 4 week into the program thing where I complained to Caz about having to stay on plan and fill out my journal. My usual thoughts..... cannot do it; why should I have to eat what they tell me when I don't feel like it, not going to be able to change my habits. But change I have!

I no longer crave certain food groups. I make wise choices with respect to everything I eat. I shop different, reading labels. Food or diet is not my number one thought; healthy choices come naturally.

I want to thank The Team; I could not have done it without you. I may not have had as many appointments as required but just your presence each time I arrived to exercise was sufficient support for me and motivated me to keep going. I think its been five months since I walked up those stairs. The best decision I have made in a very long time. I feel great.

Hi my name is Janine,

The best thing I have ever done for myself was join Healthy Inspirations in June 2009. Because I needed to lose weight, but I knew I couldn't do it on my own.

Going clothes shopping for me was very depressing, because what clothes I liked didn't fit and I refused to buy any bigger sizes. I was sick and tired of being told I looked fine and could carry the weight because I am tall. It took alot of courage on my part to walk up the stairs at HI and ask for help. What was even better for me though was having great support from my girls and my partner.

Healthy Inspirations has taught me about eating for a healthier lifestyle and doing regular exercise, but most importantly how to keep it off. The support from the staff is always encouraging, even when I had bad days and didn't think I could achieve my goal they helped me stay positive, and keep on track to what I wanted more than anything. As the saying goes if you fall off a horse, you have to get right back on it in order to succeed. You have to believe in yourself and say "I can do this"

The food is great with a large variety to choose from, but the best thing is seeing the weight come off. I lost on average a kilo a week and now I not only look great but I feel even better which is an awesome feeling. The only thing I struggle with now is accepting compliments.

I now have my before and after photo on my fridge to remind me of how far I have come.

We had tremendous fun at our recent fashion show, held here at Healthy Inspirations. Proceeds from the ticket sales & the raffle went to Breast Cancer Care WA & we've raised over $1300 from the event. Many thanks to international fashion designer, Aime Cristie, and Lorna Jane for supplying the outfits. Our members had a great time with wearing clothes they probably wouldn't have considered wearing in the past!  Many thanks to all the local businesses and services who provided gifts and donations for the raffle prizes.

Thank you to the HI Team at Balcatta who have given me the opportunity to sign up and become a member using the “At Home Program”.  The program is motivational and easy to follow.  I have a member of staff monitoring my progress each week by emailing my journal to review followed by a phone conversation/email to draw my attention to areas of improvement or where I may be doing well.  Each month I attend the centre and have a contact in-person with the opportunity to stock up on some protein snacks.  I am enjoying the challenge.  Being accountable for my eating/exercise has proven to bring about positive changes in my total well being.  I couldn’t be happier in my weight loss/well being journey.  Jane S, North Dandalup

Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff at Healthy Inspirations. I have reached out and finally achieved my goal weight and a bit more and I feel really terrific. I have dropped a couple of dress sizes and my self esteem has blossomed. These things are really important to me, as they are to everyone.

My journey has been typical of women my age. Most of my life I’ve been within the “normal” weight range. A little up at times and a little down, but weight control was manageable without a lot of fuss. Then at some unidentified point there were no more “downs” it was all UP, UP, UP. Suddenly I’m feeling really frumpy and not at all happy about it. My clothes size goes up and then that size is getting tight (or maybe it’s this new modern sizing?).   With this, a funny thing happens, your self-esteem nose dives in direct proportion to the degree your thighs rub together as you walk along. You may laugh but this is a scientifically proven fact! At this point I am not happy and being measured and told that you are in fact clinically obese is not a barrel full of laughs either. Drastic times calls for drastic measures.

Joining a weight loss centre was a drastic measure for me having never done this before in my life. I knew I needed to exercise more and give my body a good healthy kick start and where else would I go but Healthy Inspirations! It is perfect. Helpful, friendly staff that are easy to approach and full of motivation when needed, ready with healthy hints & friendly chit chat to help us on our way.  Healthy inspirations have been wonderful, supporting me in my endeavour to wrestle back my old healthy self. The diet counseling and eating plans are easily sustainable and have made a huge difference to me, even though I actually work in the health industry and have always advocated healthy eating to all my patients. The exercise regime is great (after my body got over the shock of having to work in this way). It is tailored to each individual and interest and different challenges are added in at times to maintain our enthusiasm.

Importantly for me the centre has a strong community feel, full of positive energy and camaraderie. This I noticed on my very first visit, and has remained each and every time I visit. My journey has been fantastic and FUNtastic, one I will be remaining for the foreseeable future.

"I have been attending Healthy Inspirations Balcatta for a number of years now. I joined after being disillusioned with other gyms I had been to & Healthy Inspirations was recommended to me by a work colleague. I have enjoyed coming to Healthy Inspirations because of the friendly atmosphere, the personal attention & encouragement that is given to everyone that comes here. 

Since joining, my fitness level has increased & I have been more focused on maintaining my weight. When the opportunity to have a weekly Personal Training session came along I took advantage of it as I find it a really good way to stay focused & not to get lazy! An added bonus since starting the Personal Training is that I have found I’m getting into clothes that previously were too tight for me! So thank you Healthy Inspirations for inspiring me to stay fit & healthy and for your continual encouragement – it really makes a difference!" 

Felicity has had a weekly PT session since September 2010 in addition to her regular circuit workouts. Whilst she has been able to maintain her healthy weight since starting the PT sessions she's seen a considerable drop down with her fat percentage, hence being able to get into smaller clothes! "From a tender young age I always thought of myself as being big, due to being called the big one by my step father. I developed an inferior complex of myself with low self esteem. Twenty five years ago I was an aerobic fanatic, but working full time and supporting my two daughters alone it came to end. So with the years my weight increased slowly. Four years ago I had to stop work due to medical issues, this led me to being home bound quite ill with heavy medication. In time I regained my health, but eating became my comfort as I felt alone.

Whilst shopping for some new clothes on sale I saw my reflection in the mirror of myself and cried, my gosh is this what I look like. Yes it was me mirrors don’t lie, there I was facing me. What can I do? I wanted to lose weight desperately. Amazingly a few days after this I read an ad in the paper of Jenny K’s weight loss with Healthy Inspirations, this inspired me to call straight away.

The next day in March 26th 2009 I became a member, it was my first positive step. The ladies introduced me to a program of healthy eating combined with exercise. They always were encouraging me with kind words of support and praise. Words never said to me in my lifetime. It’s amazing how lovely it can make you feel. I’ve lost 22kgs and feel absolutely fantastic, I just cannot describe in words how happy, healthy and full of life I am now. No more complex or low esteem. In the beginning my goal was to lose some weight. I have since found out by doing the program it not only helped me to lose weight but has also helped me in getting fitter and easing some of my aches and pains. I feel fantastic, my friends and family are very impressed by my results, and have been a big support to me during my weight loss journey. I’m sure that secretly they have never thought I could or would succeed as I always seemed to start off with good intentions of staying on a diet but after a few weeks I would lose interest and motivation and go back to my old ways. Then one day I decided that I did not want to be fat and fifty, I wanted to be fifty and fabulous!! andreabeforeandreaafter"January 2009 – Went shopping – disaster, nothing fitted me, gone up another size. Looked like a bag. Cried in Katies fitting room. Came home with nothing – had to wear my old baggy trousers and oversize top again. Went shopping with my mum, she held up these stretchy nylon pants in the shop, stretched them to their full extend and said very loudly – “I’m sure these will be big enough for you, they are massive” Totally embarrassed. I really do feel terrible

February 2009 – feeling tired and depressed; visited doctor. Not good news, told to lose weight. Yeah right…. I know I need to, but I can’t be bothered. 

March 2009 – Went to Singapore for holiday, very excited. Wow what a place. Thought I’d treat myself to some nice new clothes – nothing bigger than a size 14 in the shops, kept trailing around, getting more and more depressed. Walking around the streets, got burns on my inner thighs from the friction - this was horrendous

Went on tri-shaw ride, the drivers didn’t want to choose me as their passenger as I was “too wide”. Feeling really bad.

April 2009 –Walked past Healthy Inspirations, stomach churning. Walked away. Turned back – it really was time. Just a few supportive words from everyone and I was on my way.

Exercise, the dirty word, don’t think I’ll ever enjoy it. Never been to a gym before, good job Carolyn explained it all to me. Don’t think I can manage the rowers or cross trainers. Just got to keep going. 

Eating plan – only a few minor changes. Can I eat this much and still lose weight? My God the snacks are fantastic – are these really OK for me to eat!! Have to weigh in three times a week – I daren’t do anything wrong as my 4 guardian angels - Kylee, Stacy, Donna and Carolyn, will know straight away!!

Relaxation – the chair – 15 minutes isn’t long enough. I could get used to this!!

May 2009 – Is this really me? Here I am - eating properly, going to the gym at least 3 times a week, even starting to get enough energy to walk the dog again – went on the Million Paws Walk – walked 5 kms without stopping. Starting to feel excited, losing weight. Thank you Healthy Inspirations - you are making it fun. 

June 2009 - Starting to enjoy the gym – had such a laugh. The gossip was amazing – the things I’ve learnt!!!  Healthy Inspirations you are there for me when I need the motivation or just the company. Even tried out the rowing machine and surprised myself how far I could row!

July 2009 – Started dancing to the music at the gym and singing along to Abba – what a laugh. Decided to join in to some of the group activities. The first time was hard going, but I soon caught on.

August 2009 – Can’t believe it - joined the 2 month fitness challenge. Who would have thought a few months ago that I would be capable of doing this?  Thankyou Healthy Inspirations for giving me the opportunity to try.

September 2009 – Only a few kilos to go now, it really hasn’t taken long. Fitness Challenge over – what an improvement, I feel quite sad – I really enjoyed it. Decide to keep on challenging myself. There’s mention of another one starting in October – think I’ll put my name down. People are starting to notice and I’m actually getting compliments.

October 2009 – GOAL – not going to stop now. Love the gym, feeling fit and healthy. Beat my daughter in a sit-up challenge and she’s half my age!!!  She was so proud of me!! Everyone has now noticed. I’m now in a size 12 and can’t stop sneaking a peek at my reflection. Who would have thought 6 months ago that I would have been saying that exercise is fun – certainly not my husband or daughter. If I can do it anyone can.

Without Healthy Inspirations I wouldn’t have made it.  Kylee, Stacy, Donna and Carolyn showed understanding and compassion. They gave encouragement and made me laugh. When times were a bit tough they were there for me.

angelabeforeangelaafter"My journey with Healthy Inspirations, Joondalup began in early March 2009.

At this point I was the heaviest I have ever been.  I started ‘dieting’ as a child and continued into adulthood joining every diet club and doing every weird ‘diet’ I could find.  Sometimes I was successful but not for long, the weight always came back and more often than not a little more would appear.  I am 160cm short and excess weight does not look great!! 

2009 was a big year for me.  It was the big 40!!!  I didn’t want to look the way I did or feel the way I did – but – did I have enough time to make a difference? And where could I go to do this??

I drove by Healthy Inspirations in Joondalup all the time to go shopping and was always curious as to what actually went on inside.  My husband was a bit apprehensive about me joining another weight loss centre.  I dread to think about how much money over the years I have spent trying to find something that works (in actual fact they all probably worked but I gave up way too easily).  As usual I said I would give this one a good go and not give up and as usual he agreed and guess what…………..

This one did work and 10 months later I have been very successful.

Healthy Inspirations Joondalup has given me all the support I could ever need.  They provide a fantastic eating program with journal to always keep me on track and a great circuit to workout on.  The staff is phenomenal – Donna, Kylee, Stacy & Carolyn (with a special mention to Bronwen who is no longer there but started me on my journey) have provided advice on food and exercise and goal setting.  The one on one consultation, which started at 3 per week were absolutely invaluable.  It helped keep me on track and if I had a set back at any stage they offered advice on how to correct it and stay focused on my goal.  The circuit is set up to offer a fantastic workout, plenty of cardio and resistance choices and there are always classes and different challenges to keep things interesting.

By the time my birthday rolled around in May (2 months after I joined) I had lost half of my 1st goal weight.  I was excited to say the least.  I put on a little with all the celebrating but what was great was the fact that when I went back after the girls were there to give me advice and to get me back on track and looking towards my next goal.  

This was my main goal and I reached it 8 months after I joined. 

Now 10 months later.  I have lost some more weight but I have gained knowledge.  I am now able to ‘Get Things Back on Track’ if I have a little blow-out. Healthy Inspirations has given me the physical and emotional ‘tools’ to correct my eating and exercise habits.  No longer do I just say “oh well, I messed up, this isn’t working I will give up”.  I just start the next day with my new healthy habits and before you know it I am back on track and raring to go!!

So…….Thank you to Healthy Inspirations Joondalup and to all the wonderful friends I have made.  With continued support from these wonderful ladies I now know that I will go on and not fall back into ‘bad’ habits.  Reaching 12 months and being even fitter and healthier is now my next goal and I am really looking forward to it!!!"

Having joined various weight loss organisations over the last 40 years and always regained the lost weight, I was not expecting too much by joining Healthy Inspirations.  However, a friend had been successful with their approach of dietary advice, support, accountability and exercise, so I thought I'd give it one last try.  

At 62 I wasn't sure I could lose weight anymore; after all I had maintained a steady weight for the last five years by being pretty vigilant over what I ate and exercising three times or more a week at the gym.   The problem was though, that the weight I maintained was a good 10kg heavier and at least one to two dress sizes bigger than I wanted to be!

Imagine my surprise when I lost 3kg in the first week during the induction phase.   I still didn't get too excited, I figured it was all water weight and wouldn't last.  The eating plan is very simple - even easy - and in fact has resulted in a regular loss averaging approx 600g per week for me.

I have not changed my exercise routine, but what has changed is my diet.  I was always something of a carb addict, especially bread.  But I now strictly limit starchy carbohydrates and alcohol.  This has had a major effect on my energy levels and I no longer suffer gas and bloating.  The plan is nutritious, sensible and is normal food that the whole family eats.  It is so much easier than I ever would have thought.   I do not get hungry, I do not suffer an afternoon energy slump and the weight is coming off almost effortlessly.
