Weight Loss Study - 60 Female Volunteers Wanted
We are conducting a study on the different types of support available for women who are wanting to lose weight. To participate in this study which is starting on March 1, please contact the centre. Women's Wellness Programs
Boot CampYes, Boot Camp has started. This exciting outdoor fitness program is being run by Nat over six weeks and will give you the perfect opportunity to "shape up" and get fit in time for summer. Sessions will be on Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings from 6.00am to 7.00am.

HEALTHY HIM
If we had a dollar for everytime a member asked whether her husband could join....We said well funny you should mention that... We now have Healthy Him - a weight loss and exercise program for the husbands/partners/sons/friends of our members. The Healthy Him exercise times are on Tuesday from 6.00pm to 8.00pm and Thursday nights from 6.00pm until 7.00pm and on Saturdays from 11.00am until 12noon.

Meet Val S. who lost 6.4 kilos and now feels more confident, happy and energetic! Val always felt tired and struggled to play with her grandkids without running out of breath. With the support of the girls at Dernancourt, getting the right food and exercise in a friendly atmosphere Val achieved her weight loss goal. "Looking at my childhood photos I can see that I was a normal sized child until we moved interstate when I was nearly 9. Within 12 months I was seriously overweight. I stayed that way until I was about 17 when I changed schools, had further to walk each day, where I was happier so I ate less and the combination of more exercise and less food worked. I had no real problems with my weight for about the next 30 years but when I returned to teaching full time the school photos show how each year there was a bit more of me! In 1995 I went to Weight Watchers, weighing in initially at 85.4kg. I achieved my goal weight of 67kg but did not manage the transition through maintenance and so quite quickly put back all the weight that I had battled to lose. When I retired I lost some weight and went to fitness classes and felt happier about myself but knew I was still overweight. I had heard about Healthy Inspirations and remembered that the women interviewed always sounded very positive about the program and when one opened at Dernancourt I felt that I had no excuse not to try it for myself. I am so glad that I did! I have had good days and not so good days but have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the program – learning how to eat correctly and learning that exercise can be pleasurable. I don’t miss all the chocolate I used to eat. I am enjoying being an active size 12 and plan to stay this way for the rest of my life."
