Blackwood Healthy Inspirations Not Just A Gym, it is a Club!

Healthy Inspirations Blackwood is not a gym. It is also not an meal replacement progam and it is definitely not a day spa. It is, however, a weight loss focus in Blackwood where you can lose those extra kilos and change your shape. So thus the "Great Shape Centre". Lifesprints: Designed specifically for fat loss!

LifeSprints has been developed from research conducted by the Medical Faculty at the University of New South Wales. The research has shown that a 20 minute work-out consisting of 8 seconds of sprint exercise, followed by 12 seconds of easy pace aerobic exercise, resulted in much more fat loss than 40 minutes of steady pace aerobic activity (3 times a week for 15 weeks). These studies also found and reported big increases in aerobic and anaerobic fitness, with subjects showing signifificantly decreased fasting insulin and increased leg and abdomen muscle mass.  Tabata is a more advanced version of Life Sprints.

“I feel so much happier, healthier and prouder than I have ever felt before”

 

 

 

“I cannot believe I am 9 kilograms lighter than 12 months ago”

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 I was always trying this diet and that diet looking for the easy way out. None of the diets were a permanent success and I continued to gain weight. I constantly felt frustrated and lacking in energy and motivation.

 

 

 

Then 18 months ago, I went for my annual general medical check up with my GP. I had a very rude awakening. My Dr told me that I had to lose weight as I was on the borderline for developing Type 2 diabetes. This really scared me as my mother had Type 2 diabetes and I saw the effect this had on her quality of life.

 

 

 

At a social outing that I attended some time later, the subject of health and fitness was being discussed by a close friend of mine, Barb Spencer, who had the same sort of problem as myself. She was at that time going to Healthy Inspirations and I thought that she was looking terrific. Barb could see that I was interested and a few days later I received from her a gift voucher for 7 days to tryout at the centre. This involved having a chat to Jodi, which I did.

 

 

 

Since that day, I have never looked back. It was not easy at first, and there were several times when I felt tempted to quit. It took all of my determination, rethinking and willpower to continue on. Jodi and the girls were very encouraging and supportive and urged me to continue on.

 

 

 

I went into a couple of plateaus along the way however whilst walking down and up Chapman Street next to the gym a few times, I received the jolt that I needed when I realised just how unfit I really was.

 

 

 

Now that I have reached my goal weight, I feel so much happier, healthier and prouder than I have ever felt before. My family and friends exclaim “wow, you have lost weight!!!” and that makes me feel even better.

 

 

 

The change that I found the most confronting was having to write down everything that I ate and drank on a daily basis. This led me to the realisation that I needed to reassess all of my previous eating and drinking habits. I commenced doing this with assistance from Jodi and the girls at the centre.

 

 

 

I believe that I now have established much improved eating and drinking habits and I am extremely determined not to return to my former lifestyle patterns.

 

 

 

I would like to say thanks to my husband and other family members and also my friends for their understanding, support and encouragement throughout the last 15 months. Also I would like to say a big thank you to Jodi, Sue, Jenny and girls for all of their support and advice.

 Even prior to me quitting smoking, I was gaining weight especially around what sued to be a waist line.  Giving up cigarettes was an extremely difficult process where I replaced the cigarettes with any comfort food that I could find, usually packed with sugar and carbs.  Feeling depressed and uncomfortable about my appearance led me to the best decision I ever made walking into Healthy Inspirations.

 

 

 

Right from the moment I walked in the door the staff where so supportive and encouraging that made this weight loss journey seem like a breeze.

 

 

 

My first weigh in was at 87.7kgs which I realised was more than I weighed when I was nine months pregnant.

 

 

 

 They introduced me to the well laid out eating plan and exercise programme and so my journey began.

 

 

 

Being organised and committed to the plan of achieving my goal awarded me slimmer of the month in my first month (Sept 2010).  Losing 7 kg and 24.5cm which was so rewarding and uplifting it made me more determined to keep the new eating habits and exercise going.

 

 

 

 The continued support and re-education of the eating plan helps you continue the journey with so much ease.

 

 

 

 After just 15 weeks I have reached my goal weight of 73kg being a total of 15kgs and 63.5cms.

 

 

 

I feel amazing and so much healthier, and the comments you get from your friends and family makes it all worth the effort.  My husband says he has a new women and loves my new look.  I feel confident that this re-education eating and exercise will help me maintain this weight.

 

 

 

 Now after 18 weeks I have reached my weight to 70kgs and finding no trouble to maintain that weight.  All thanks to HI team for guiding me in the right direction of eating and exercise.

Lost 29.4 kg, 94cm’s and 15% Body Fat!

 

 Why did you choose Healthy Inspirations and what health benefits have hyou received from being on the program?

 

 I wandered into Healthy Inspirations one day just to see what it was, having gone past and wondered several times and having no idea that it was going to change my life.  I hand no intentions on that day that I would join.  However, before I knew it I had signed up and my journey commenced.  I have not looked back.  At the start of the program I was suffering from high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bordering on becoming diabetic.  I felt fatigued and was not coping well with a job which was very stressful and emotionally draining.  Since being on the program, my blood pressure and cholesterol have returned to normal limits and I no longer am at risk of developing diabetes.  My energy levels are the highest they have been for many years and I have found through the exercise program that I now deal with the same (sometimes higher) level of stress in a positive way.  My family and I have benefited from a more energetic and happier me.

 

 Who inspires you the most and why?

 

 The coach (Jenny Carroll) at the centre with her enthusiasm, encouragement, her bright personality and her zest for life.  She manages to help ladies achieve what they think is impossible for them.

 

 What is your weight loss goal?

December 2010 Slimmer of the month - Ginnie K

 “I have had lifetime of weight issues and have been big since I was only 9 years old.” Like so many other women, my life has been a rollercoaster of diets where I go in all guns blazing, lose weight, and then just as quickly, lose all motivation and then give up. After each and every one of these missions, I soon put the weight back on, always adding a little extra...creeping, creeping, creeping up each time.

 

 

Post motherhood at 30 I found it even more difficult to keep the kilos off. And whilst I hate to say it took me 9 years to realise...I finally grasped the terrible truth...if I didn’t get this resolved within myself I would never be the person I know I can be. I realised just how much my continued anguish over this was really starting to affect my confidence in a general sense. In the rest of my life I am quite strong and committed when I really want something, but failing repeatedly in this area had started to make me feel like I had a major character flaw. I was feeling more full of doubt and less sure that I would ever get control of the one thing in my whole life that has consistently upset me, and niggled at me, and made me at times feel real disgust in myself. How could I ever achieve total happiness if I couldn’t get this bloody monkey off my back?

 

 

 Unfortunately, having lost all that confidence in my ability to succeed with this, I was understandably nervous about another failure and feeling very inclined to just give up before I had even started. But upon some urging from my mum who suggested it might help if I had someone to go through this with, 7 months ago I spoke to my friend Karen to see if she would join up with me. Thankfully she agreed and together we haven’t looked back.

 

 

 So now it seems the planets have at last aligned and 2 major things have come together to make the choice of joining HI something that ‘fits’ better than anything else I have ever tried. The first factor has been Karen and having a buddy to work out with. We keep each other motivated. We encourage each other. When she loses weight I feel just as happy as if it were me, and vice versa.

 

 

I think a key for me, personally, is the fact that if I was doing this on my own and had a night where I didn’t feel like going to gym, I would simply make excuses to myself to not go. But when there is someone else involved I am so much less likely to do that. I have discovered it’s much easier to let yourself down than it is to let someone else down and this has been such a turning point.  We do of course have weeks where things are super busy and you just can’t get there, or you’re eating out and make a couple of bad food choices. But the difference this time, is not once have I even considered giving up if I have a bad week. I just keep getting back on the horse. Even when I’m not moving on the scales my measurements are still changing and this keeps me focussed and moving forward.

 

 

 The second factor is the entire package I’m a part of at HI. I never thought I’d hear myself say it but it is actually fun! It feels like we laugh our way through everything. Huge credit goes to the girls who work with us on our programs and keep us so excited about the changes we’re making. They are an amazing support and clearly love their mentoring roles. It is just such a great environment to be in.  One where I feel understood and inspired by the women I see around me. I’m at the stage now, where what I’m doing has become a part of my life, rather than something that’s competing against it.

 

 

 My goal was to be under 80 kilos before my 40th birthday in November. It’s October now and I have less than 2kgs to go to get there. I know I am going to do it. I have another 5 kilos I’d love to lose and for the 1st time in my life I can happily say I have absolutely not a doubt in my mind that I will get there and I am well past the stage where I would normally give up or lose interest. I’m not rushing to lose the weight. I’m revelling in the fact I am making a permanent change in my life. I’m not on a diet. I’m eating healthily and eating with my family. I’m feeling so much stronger and happier. Best of all I am feeling mentally like a million bucks because I am actually ON the journey rather than just watching someone else do it and wishing that I was.

 

 

 I am so much more active in my general life and my son, as a result, is more active too. I was also sleeping a maximum of 4 hours a night when I joined HI and am now sleeping like a babe which is helping me in so many other areas of this insanely busy life. There are just countless benefits which I hadn’t even considered and they are all combining to make my life so much easier.

 

 

 I am going to be looking and feeling younger at 40 than I did at 30. And that is an AMAZING feeling.

Hi, I’m Donna and I’m Judy and we are Workout Buddies.

"It all started about June last year with a walk down Chapman St. (that was the easy part) coming up was hard but luckily we know how to talk.  The walk then came easier.

We then worked out that we came to Healthy Inspirations at similar times and then the Chapman St walk turned into a regular exercise session which got harder each week, and thanks to Kathleen we learnt new exercises and extended ourselves

By knowing each would be here, we had more of a commitment to come to Healthy Inspirations.  By having a buddy we would push each other more than if we were here alone and now seeing some good results. (Especially Donna who looks amazing)

f you are working alone you can leave earlier if you lose motivation (oh can’t be stuffed today), but with a buddy you can not leave!!! You are there till the  nd and you don’t want to let them down.

 

 

By working out and talking, time fly’s by and you don’t get bored. Before you know it an hour has gone by and you are sweaty and feeling great.

We both would like to thank the Healthy Inspirations girls for introducing us to each other and to the other ladies who work out at the same time as us. They are a great bunch and we have some good laughs.

 

 

We are here Monday, Wednesday and Friday about 1.30pm, so come and join us we don’t bite. Well not hard anyway."

"My name is Natalia. I worked and lived in many different countries because of my dedication to the linguistic profession in the past. I was known as a very skinny but good looking young girl. I was always trying to put on 2-3kg of weight. I really couldn’t understand why many of my friends found it difficult to lose weight. In October 1998 I married and had my first child in 2000. I put on a bit of weight but was still completely happy with my body. In 2005 I was expecting my second child and for some reason put 30kg on. That’s when I started to feel big, fat, ugly, angry, unhealthy and unhappy. I then started to understand what “big” people go through. I tried some diets, often starving myself but it didn’t help.  I tried to go to the gym and lost two or three kilos, only to put it back on again. Nothing was helping and it seemed impossible to lose the weight. In February 2008 we moved to Adelaide, Australia for a new beginning and beautiful future. That was great, but deep inside I was so unhappy, unconfident and never bought any new clothes for myself. I couldn’t even look in the mirror. At the same time I had my “biggest” excuse – NO TIME FOR MYSELF and THAT’S TOO EXPENSIVE!?

 

 

Good fortune brought me to Healthy Inspirations at the end of October 2008. I was suffering from backache and I was visiting a chiropractor. After my treatment, as I left the building I realised that the pain would return. I knew then that the problem was due to my weight and I felt depressed. It was then, when I raised my eyes, I noticed from across the road, the large letters that spelled Healthy Inspirations. I decided to pop in and that was it. I met magnificent staff with incredible positive enthusiasm and infinite kindness to everyone who came there. Highly professional, they treat everyone with respect and love.

I started my new journey in November 2008. Being on the program helped me feel better physically, mentally and morally. I have no more backaches, tiredness or constipation. I now have lots of confidence, feel very happy and able to smile again. I have made great friends and soul mates. I have begun to believe in myself and in things I never thought I could do. At last, I strongly believe that joining this program has been the best investment for my health.

 

 

I will definitely continue my weight loss and exercise program at Healthy Inspirations after reaching my goal. Currently I have lost 23kg and 70cm in 9 months. I dropped from size 20 to 12.  I followed 3 simple things – exercise (now I can always find 30 minutes per day and even more for myself), a food plan (which is simple and beautiful for all kinds of tastes) and friendly and individual back-up support (they make you feel so special).

I had made my choice, and  I am happy now. Life is too short to say “no” to our happiness and healthy wellbeing. 
Last month our friendly staff suggested that I take part in the local competition and I won the first price! To tell you the truth, I took part in it to “win” and to prove to myself that I can do it. And it happened. I felt really, really proud and happy! A lot of people voted for me and I thank them, I thank my family for always supporting me, the girls who work at HI and those who really inspired me!!!

I'm absolutely delighted. This achievement means a lot to me!!!

paulaafter"I joined Healthy Inspirations Blackwood in December 2 years ago. I was at a point in my life where I needed to take control of my weight and health. Being a Registered Nurse I knew all of the potential health issues associated with being overweight and unfit and I knew what I needed to do to prevent them, but I lacked the ability to put it into practice. I was 48 years old with my first grandchild due and after a recent medical check up was diagnosed with high blood pressure. My GP gave me a month to get my blood pressure under control or I would be prescribed medication. So I bit the bullet and ventured into Healthy Inspirations, which was just across the road from the doctors. The friendly staff saw me straight away and I joined immediately reassuring myself that it would be better to spend my money here rather than on medication.

 

 

I had already lost 10 kg in the previous year and so was already following a reduced fat/sugar diet but things had come to a stand still. After talking to the staff at Healthy Inspirations I decided that instead of focusing purely on the scales I would take a more scientific approach and also focus on my lifestyle. So over the coming weeks and months I didn’t stress when the weight only gradually budged. I reminded myself each week that muscle weighed more than fat and burned extra kilojoules to function. I relied on the tape measure and the fit of my clothes to judge my weight loss and I introduced more protein to feed my newly toned muscles. The protein bars and shakes were a huge help. Some weeks I would only loose 200g, but I would often loose 10cm or more over the month. I would try to get to the gym daily and soon realised that I needed to make this a priority. Therefore before I did anything else with my day I would go to the gym, setting myself a routine. I even went when it was cold and wet or I didn’t feel 100%. After each exercise session I would feel better. And that is my key. I know that if I eat healthy and exercise I feel better.

 

 

I have kept my weight off for a year now and no longer keep a food diary as I now know what and when to eat. I still try to get to the gym daily as I know this allows me to have indulgences and still remain within a kg of my goal weight. I make better food choices and indulge in a more active lifestyle. My family and friends all comment on how fit and well I look and how my body shape has changed. Even at a lighter weight in my younger years, I was never this thin. Although I no longer wish to lose weight I am still amazed that my body is still toning, shaping and losing centimetres.

 

 

It took me nearly a year to lose 15kg, but the longer I stuck at it the more the program became a lifestyle. My blood pressure reduced and I didn’t need to go onto medication. I am also able to keep up with my 2 year old granddaughter. I feel better, fitter, stronger and healthier than I have in years. The Healthy Inspirations staff are now my confidants and they are always encouraging and full of praise. They make this whole new healthy lifestyle, fun, challenging and interesting. Healthy Inspirations is now a part of my life and social network."
