Trim, Taut & Terrific!
By Trish Rowell
It was January 2004.I stood in front of the mirror aghast at what was reflected back at me. I was getting dressed in our recently renovated dressing room, well-lite & with full-length mirrors. I was literally seeing my body in a new light. A stranger was looking back at me. She had my eyes and hair, but what a body! There was just too much body for the under garments struggling to contain it!! Extra bits were bulging from the side of the bra & the top of the knickers! The tops of the legs clapped together & the tops of the arms were flabby! The scales confirmed it. I was way over a healthy weight for my height (161cm). In fact I had reached my full-term pregnancy weight without a baby on board! No wonder I was so tired and low. Help!
I recalled seeing an ad in the Local Bulletin for a women’s weight loss centre “Healthy Inspirations”. I called up and booked a consultation. I felt excited to have decided to take action but must admit that the thought of a “diet” scared me & having not stepped inside a gym for 10 years, I was nervous that I would be too unfit and stick out like a sore thumb.
I needn’t have worried. The consultant at Healthy Inspirations put me at ease. We chatted about my weight history, my motivation to lose weight and then she helped me establish a realistic goal - to be 55 kgs by our wedding anniversary on March 27 (It was now January 6 and I was 61kgs). I came away feeling well equipped to start my weight lose journey to a trimmer, healthier me.
The next day I was shown around the circuit and was surprised how user friendly it was. There were women of all shapes and sizes working out, obviously having fun. I loved the atmosphere – a group of like minded women working at getting fitter and firmer.
The “diet’ or “healthy eating plan” was fantastic. I thought I might need to make a separate meal for myself and another for my family but the “plan” worked for all of us.
I was hooked on “Healthy Weight Loss”. I worked out in the circuit 3 or 4 times a week, I went for morning walks and increased my “incidental” exercise. I kept the Daily Journal, planned meals and snacks and had my “daily visits” with the Lifestyle Consultants at H.I. 3 times a week. They were great at helping me keep on track and deal with challenging situations like birthdays and work morning teas.
By March 5 I had reached my goal plus “released” an extra .5 of a kilo. I graduated to the “Healthy Balance” part of the program.
May 2004 and I am down to 51 kgs. My body seems to be happy with this weight and can even cope with a weekly “planned indulgence”. When I reached 100% of my goal Healthy Inspirations sent me to Tempo for a photo shoot and must say I scrubbed up pretty well!
I am truly happy to be in my skin! I feel trim, taut and terrific!
P.S. It’s nearly 4 years since I realised my weight loss goal with Healthy Inspirations. My weight now fluctuates between 50 and 52 kgs depending on hormones, water retention etc. I am now managing Healthy Inspirations at Kenmore and I’m loving help women to get into great shape.I love my job (How many people do you know who can say that?). I’d welcome the opportunity to help you get into great shape too.
